-Wimbledon - England
|
British currency: Britain
does not use the Euro although some major establishment
will accept it,
The unit of British currency is the Great Britain
Pound (GBP) sterling.
One pound is sub-divided into 100 Pence. One penny
is the lowest unit available..
Currency banknotes and coins
: click
here to get information and see all of the
banknotes and coins in use in the UK (England) today.
Currency exchange
Banks or the larger post offices are the best places
to change money ,avoid changing money or cheques in
hotels, you will find tht the rates are usually the
worst on offer , Bureaux de Change can quite expensive
too.
Banks, building societies and travel agents will usually
charge a fixed percentage fee, about 3%, with a minimum
of fee of £2.50. Or it might be 2%, with a minimum
fee of £3.
There are no exchange controls in Britain, you can
bring in as much cash as you like and change travellers'
cheques up to any amount
Travellers' cheques ( Traveler checks)
The easiest and safest way to carry your money is
in travellers' cheques , available for a small commission
(normally 1 percent) from any major bank. The most
commonly accepted are issued by American Express,
and Visa.
Credit cards
Credit cards can be used either in ATMs or over the
counter. Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners
Club are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants
in England and of course in Wimbledon itself,
You'll also find ATMs at, train stations, motorway
service areas, some petrol stations and at main supermarkets.
American Express is the 2004 officially appointed
card
|
Note : larger post offices do also offer a
competitive Bureau de change service ,

Non
European Union citizens tax saving
|
American and non European Union visitors to
Britain can reclaim the 17.5% VAT, minus the
administrative fee, on purchases over a minimum
limit (check with the store for their limit
£75-£100).
VAT is a Value Added Tax that all citizens of
the European Union pay but non residents are
exempt and therefore should be able to reclaim
it.
Look for the Tax Free Shopping sign
in the windows of shops that run the Tax Free
Shopping Scheme .
All you have to do is fill out the form, which
the sales assistant will give you, keep the
goods in your hand luggage and show both goods
and forms to the VAT desk at the airport or
seaport on your departure. A customs officer
will check the goods and validate the refund
voucher.
You can receive your refund on the spot at some
airports, otherwise you should mail the validated
form back to the store in the envelope provided,
and a refund check will be sent to you by mail.
You can also have the refund credited to your
credit card account

Wimbledon
- 2008 tickets informations guide
|
Queue on the day
:
Approximately 500 tickets each for Centre
and No.1 Court seats are available daily,
EXCEPT for the last four days on Centre
Court .
Approximately 500 No.2 Court seat tickets
are available each day for as many days
as a full run of matches can be maintained.
Approximately 6000 Ground tickets are available
each day 'depending on conditions' such
as weather and tickets already sold Ground
tickets entitle use of the No.2 Court standing
enclosure and unreserved seating and standing
round Courts 3-19.
You do stand a very slim chance to get Centre
court or Court one tickets ( people do always
camp outside the grounds from the previous
night rain or shine ), but other Grounds
tickets ,that's, if you can queue for 'few
hours' should be fairly easy to obtain.
If you have not managed to get a Wimbledon
tickets, either through queueing on the
day ( limited numbers of tickets are available
and hours of queueing await you) , or you
were unlucky with the Public Ballot ( public
applications run in to 10000s, multiple
applications are disregarded, your chances
of obtaining a tickets are somewhat -
very slim , the draw is held in January,
and successful applicants are informed by
March ), your remaining option is:
Debenture tickets
Debenture seat details are not available
until late May each year., they are legally
advertised and sold , you should check that
the ticket has the word 'Debenture' printed
on it instead of the price. Debenture tickets
are issued every fiveyears and fund Wimbledon
running and project costs ( including the
new roof due by 2009 at centre court.).
The last Debenture issue was in 2001 and
cost £9999 ( $18300 at todays exchange
rate).
Wimbledon debenture tickets do come at a
much higher price , but hey, if you can
afford it go for it
Please note that only debenture tickets
can be legally transfered to another owner.
This below is a general indicative price
guide for the most sought after Wimbledon
2004 tickets ( debenture ), prices do vary
widely and do increase towards the end of
the championship. In certain cases prices
may also drop depending on market conditions.
Generally wimbledon tickets do not remain
unsold.
WARNING: Please do not buy tickets
from touts, ( touts = scalpers,schwarzhändler,
bacarinagios , hawkers , this is strictly
illegal and will most probably not gain
you access to the grounds.
Re-Sold Tickets
(usually late pm ,you must already be inside
Wimbledon grounds on Ground Pass or Show
Court ticket) You can purchase re-sold court
tickets (which are tickets which the original
owner no longer requires on the day) . There
is a ticket resale point at St Mary's walk
which is situated at the left of Court number
one , passed the large screen tv viewing
area and the Aorangi food court.
