We finished work early on Friday, met up with Dazza and Sam and
took thetube down to Wimbledon for the tennis.
After taking a taxi down the length of the queue, we found our spot
(700th from the gate). After pitching the tents, the girls went
looking for ice and beer, the boys put up the airbeds (something
wrong there!). With that all sorted we sat down to a very civilised
meal (courtesy of Sam) and a few drinks which ended up in a very
uncivilised fashion around 4am.
At 7am we all got woken as the queue was about to move and we needed
to pack the tents and all the gear away again. We got to the gate
fairly quickly and found we had a choice of Centre Court or Court
One to choose from. We decided on Court One, as we could watch Lindsay
Davenport, Pat Rafter and Andre Agassi. After checking out some
of the less popular courts, we proceeded to our alotted seats. We
lucked out with front row seats, right by where the players enter
and leave the court, it was also the spot where they came to sign
autographs, so Dazza was able to collect a few.
All in all it was a truly memorable experience, and even managed
to spark an interest in playing tennis for both of us... hmmm just
need some dry weather now.
